Hike to Lake Blanc (2352 m) from the Col des Montets (1461m)
26 september 2016
Sublime hike this Tuesday, September 20th in the “Aiguilles Rouges National Nature Reserve”, from the Col des Montets to Lac Blanc.
This hike is undoubtedly among the prettiest hikes that I have completed. I saw many ibex group both going up and coming down.
I have rarely seen so many ibex young or adult males and females of all ages. Halfway through the walk, the view is breathtaking looking across to the Mont Blanc massif. The “Lac Blanc” of a Turquoise color is particularly beautiful. A refuge is located near the lake. A first building, located right on the lake, was swept away by an avalanche in the mid 1980s. Since then, a new shelter was built, a little further away, in the shelter of a rock buttress.

Description of the route:
From the parking at Chalet Home Reserve, take the footpath, rising rather stiffly on the slope. Shortly after, the road joins another path from Tre-le-Champ. After turning right to follow the direction of the White Lake, the ascent is made by short steps. A little further on, we come to a promontory overlooking the Argentière Glacier. The path continues on the grassy slope to eventually lead to a flat area to admire the chain of Mont Blanc. Marked by cairns at regular intervals, the way found to Lakes Chéserys. Further up, the path takes a ladder. A final rise over large blocks of rocks takes you to the Refuge du Lac Blanc and the Lake. The return is by the same route.
